Study Load  20 hours per week (Full Time)
Estimated Self-study hours  5 hours per week(May be more or less depending upon learner's pre-existing skills and knowledge).
Entry requirements  
  • Must be of 18 years old or over.
  • Completed year 12 (HSC or equivalent)
  • Must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
  • IELTS Overall score of 6.0, with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent. The scores must not be older than 2 years.
  • OR Successful completion of an English placement test.
Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform advanced diagnostic tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

Pathways into this qualification
Those undertaking the Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis are required to have completed AUR30620 III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
Pathways from this qualification
On successful completion of this course you will be awarded with AUR40216 Certificate IV in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Candidates may choose to undertake AUR50216 Diploma of Automotive Technology or other relevant qualifications.
Pathways to Employment
Graduates may find employment in automotive industry as an automotive lead or master technician, automotive technical adviser, etc.
Assessment methods

Written assessments, knowledge questions, practical demonstration of tasks and associated paperwork.

Course Structure

A total of 10 Units (1 Core and 9 electives) must be completed and deemed competent to achieve the qualification AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis. Participants who achieve competency in any unit/s will receive a Statement of Attainment (provided USI is verified) for that unit/s without completing all the units in the qualification. Students completing all the required units of competency will attain full qualification.
