Individuals may enter SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower level qualification. However, it is strongly recommended that individuals undertake lower level qualifications, such as certificate III in commercial cookery and/or gain industry experience prior to entering the qualification. After achieving SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery individuals could progress to SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management or equivalent. This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector, as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialization in food and beverage.
Assessment methods

Assessment is based on competency, that is the ability to perform specific skills and is done through a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, examinations, and/or practical application and work related projects.
